DiFazio YR 1981 UL http://rapm.bmj.com/content/6/3/95.abstract AB From studies in rats, the plasma concentration and percent reduction of minimum anesthetic requirement (MAC) produced by bupivacaine were determined. In addition, mean convulsant blood levels of bupivacaine and lidocaine for the rat were determined. It was concluded that bupivacaine, a local anesthetic relatively devoid of the systemic effect of sedation, shows minimal general anesthetic potency as compared to lidocaine, despite its greater toxicity and potency as a local anesthetic.
