Abstract

In an effort to learn how pain control is taught in anesthesiology residencies, directors of 130 residencies were surveyed. Only 56% of the responding programs provide residents with a structured rotation in pain control. Reasons for this deficiency in pain control teaching and suggestions for improving the learning experience are presented. In addition, the concept and importance of the multidisciplinary approach to pain control is discussed.
