Effect of General Anesthesia and Epidural Anesthesia on Some Monocyte and Lymphocyte Functions During and After Surgery

Abstract

Depressions of various lymphocyte and monocyte functions, shown during and after surgery under general anesthesia, are absent during and after surgery under epidural anesthesia. These findings might be of importance to postoperative resistance to bacterial infections and perhaps the risk of cancer spreading during surgery on malignant tumors.
