Continuous Epidural Anesthesia in Children Under 10 Years Old

Abstract

Continuous epidural anesthesia in children is becoming more and more popular but until recently there has been no pediatric-size epidural equipment. A 1-year retrospective study was reported of the use of continuous epidural anesthesia with 19-gauge pediatric epidural needles and catheters in children under 10 years old. In 42 children studied, the use of pediatric-size epidural equipment was believed to be an improvement compared with the use of adult-size equipment. No major side effects or accidents occurred in this group of patients.
